XVIII ^th dynasty

Interest in ancient Egypt does not date back to the XIX ^th century. In the V ^th century B.C., Herodotus traveled there often to admire the marvelous monuments and wrote the most astonishing reports.
Soon after, historians and geographers followed : Strabon, Diodore and many others.
Pyramids, the Kings tombs in Thebes and the Memnon Colosses, attract tourists from the entire Mediterranean.

While the west was gradually loosing the memory of this far off land, with the exception of a brief moment during the crusades, the Muslim world became attracted to the pharaonic period. But in the meantime the "key" was lost.
