Far in the southeast of Egypt, in the actual location of Eritrea and Somalia, lies the mysterious land of Pount. Egyptians knew of it from the Vth dynasty onwards, and the texts on the Ptolemaic and Roman temples still mention it.
But it is especially from the writings of the middle and new empires that we are informed of the exploits of travelers such as the adventurous Henou.

People from the Pount lived on the riverbanks in raised huts on stilts. Their land produced ebony, oliban, exported ivory, kohl, gold and animals like bulls, cattle and monkeys. Barter trade was conducted in a good climate.
