XVIIIth Dynasty Royal head adorned with the white crown of Upper Egypt. These two kingdoms were symbolized by the white crown of Upper Egypt and red crown of Lower Egypt. The Pharaohs wore a combination of the two to underline the unity of the ancestral kingdoms. The symbolic value of the crowns was equally transmitted to the Gods of the Egyptian pantheon. Each God according to the origin of his cult, was often portrayed with one of the crowns, to which was added his distinctive signs.
