With this piece we will end our trip.
Having started in Dakar in a "car rapide", it ends in Goree, a small island off the coast of
the Senegalese capital.
This island is like a symbol and an outcome of the past, linked forever to the present.
Small piece of land disputed and shaken between so many influences for centuries, it has
known periods of glory and misery .
If it was an important stopping place in the slave trade, it also witnessed the reign of
the "signares". These metisse women, who during more than a century were the true masters of
the island, have given birth to some of the greatest families in Senegal.
In Goree one can find all the stories, influences and myths: the trip, the old negro, slavery,
the sea and the "ndiarhass".
Only the "car rapides" are missing since motor engines are prohibited.
