Title: MEMORIAL GOREE XII

(REST OF THE WARRIOR IN THE WAVES)

After five years in Paris, Fode felt the need to return to DAKAR.

He had worked a lot during this period and this immersion in another universe had been very positive, but he became homesick.

This painting is one of the last created in Paris.

Influances from the exhibition "Revolution sous les tropics" (see following works) are still discernable with the theme of Goree island. But equally, there appears the need to see the sea again and immerse oneself in the waves.

The vertical separation is like a passage between two worlds where the figure seems to hesitate. Another separation, this one horizontal, divides the body into two entities. The lower part, clear on a white background, where one sees only a few veiled nuances, and the top part totaliy carried away by the waves of the ocean where the face seems to disappear.

After having discovered another world which brought him back to Goree, the Warrior needed to rest.
