This monumental tryptic is one of the major works of the exhibition "Revolution sous les tropics". "I tried to integrate the maximum of images all by using the evolution which is a part of the word Revolution". It is in these terms that Fode describes this piece. It is a long historical development, starting from slavery (left side), through colonization (central part), and finally arriving in the Africa of today (right part).
One rediscovers the "code of colors" frequently used by Fode. The red in which the person behind the bars on the left, seems to be burning. The usual historical references are also present. The scarf of the Senegalese soldiers is there, as well as the waves of the ocean: perpetual invitation to travel. "I painted several diptics and tryptics on the theme of Goree, of travelling and the old negro soldier from colonial times. Self-portraits integrated into selected spaces. I lived this project not as an order but as an experience, an occasion to create".
This piece was part of the exhibition "Revolution sous les tropics". It was also shown at "la Grande Arche" to La Defense in Paris and was part of several important exhibitions in Japan. |
