Title: ETUDE: LE VIEUX NEGRE XI

This piece leads us to another aspect of the artist's work.

Toward the end of his stay in Paris, Fode who preferred to call himself a "plasticien" rather than painter, started exploring other forms and technique.
He used tryptics and diptics, and added solid objects onto canvas such as the shoe in " le vieux negre et les tricolors".
He works on the background by adding wooden pieces or forms jumping out from the borders of the frame.

This desire to escape from the linear and flat world, starts with a split of the canvas.

This portrait cut along the contours of the face, was glued on to kraft paper and then split into four parts of the same dimension.
