TRIBAL ART GALLERY

first part (1/2)

Known particularly for these strange objects, art from the African continent is essentially linked to religious life. Artists from the West were fascinated by the "design" of sculptures and masks, but these objects were generally made and used to fulfill a liturgical objective. Their creators applied humanity's old rule: give beauty to objects of importance.

However, these symbols and objects of worship are currently being threatened by the great monotheist religions and dramatic cultural changes. If they still represent the cultural origins of an African continent in the height of change, then only time will tell if their role and reason for being will have a value for future generations.

It is thus a voyage through time to which Tamarin invites you. How can we understand the present without knowing the past.
