This "bieri" head was destined to be placed on the
top of a reliquary containing the remains of ancestors. It was the guardian of the
relics and an intermediary between the world of the living and the dead.
This statue is of classical "bieri" style. The triangular face is framed by two braids,
which are an extention of the hairstyle. The mouth, placed at the extreme end of
the chin, gives the statue a mortuary character. The prominent eyes constitute a
bizarre element.
