ZANDE FIGURE

D.R.Congo

The Zandes, like the Mangbetu, with whom they have a history of conflictual relationships, originate from Sudan. In the sixteenth century they progressively migrated towards what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo in Central Africa.

This statue made of bone, is a "yande" type and belongs to the "mani", a magico/religious sect which celebrates the female cult. The statue is destined to bring good luck and well being to its owner.
