Halidou Sali, the twelfth Lamido( king ) of Bibemi,
received his kingdom in 1958. He is a descendant of Aido Samba, one of the 42 Kings of Adamawa, who during the eighteenth century carried the flag for the Jihad( holy war ) of Ousman Dan Fodio. The ancestors of the inhabitants of Bibemi, were called "Yillaga"( hard-headed villagers ), because of their impetuous temperment and their enjoyment of war. In fact it was because of a conflict with their neighbors in Macina( in actual Mali ), that they emigrated up to northern Cameroun. Their exodus lasted several centuries, and in 1770 they chased the Nyam-Nyam, the former inhabitants of Bibemi, and settled themselves.
